Jasmine Garner Spearheads Launch of Pioneering Partnership Between AFL and Maple Community Services

Maple Community Services is thrilled to announce an innovative partnership with the AFL, being identified as the ‘Official NDIS Support Service Partner’ of the AFL and AFLW. This collaboration is a first in Australia, setting a precedent for inclusivity in sports, with AFLW star Jasmine Garner playing a pivotal role in launching this initiative.

Garner, renowned for her advocacy and support within the disability community, has been instrumental in promoting the partnership. Her personal connection to the cause, through her brother Kane who has an intellectual disability and is a cherished member of her club, underscores the profound impact of inclusivity in sports.

This groundbreaking partnership will extend over the next three years, with both organizations committed to fostering an inclusive environment where individuals of all abilities can engage and excel in Australian Rules football. The AFL and Maple Community Services aim to equip football clubs across the country with the necessary tools and knowledge to welcome and support people with disabilities.

The collaboration includes providing physical training sessions, organizing open days at clubs for people with disabilities, and supplying clubs with expert guidance and specialized equipment. Moreover, Maple Community Services will contribute significantly to the AFL’s disability and inclusion initiatives by donating 25 wheelchairs annually and supporting the Toyota National Inclusion Carnival.

Staff at Marvel Stadium will also benefit from enhanced training programs developed by Maple Community Services, which will improve their skills in assisting individuals with disabilities.

Irshad Mulla, CEO of Maple Community Services, shared his enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are excited to work alongside the AFL to champion a more inclusive and accessible environment in football. This collaboration not only aims to empower individuals with disabilities but also to integrate them fully into the fabric of sports.”

Jasmine Garner’s involvement brings a personal touch to the initiative, enhancing its visibility and impact. “Supporting my brother and recognizing his value has always been important to me,” Garner said. “This partnership reflects our commitment to inclusivity and the potential for individuals with disabilities to contribute meaningfully to our community.”

This partnership marks a significant step forward in creating a diverse and inclusive sporting community, with Jasmine Garner at the forefront of this positive change.
