Disability Support Workers in Brisbane,
Matched to You

Our Brisbane support workers provide hands-on help that keeps the ordinary week running, doing things beside you rather than for you, so the confidence stays with you after the shift ends.

Maple Community Services is a registered NDIS provider, and our Brisbane team supports participants across the city and the surrounding council areas, from the inner north and inner south out to Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay. Brisbane is the largest NDIS service district in Queensland, with 29,711 active participants, and inside it you get a small named team rather than whoever the roster produces on the day.

    Your Questions, Answered

We build your match around you, starting with the support you need, how you like to communicate, and the shape of your week. Around 80% of our team comes from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, speaking over 50 languages. This means matching you based on language and culture is usually a given, not just a goal. Most importantly, you’ll always meet your support worker before your first shift so you can decide if they’re the right fit.

Yes, we do. We deliver High Intensity Daily Personal Activities, including complex bowel care, enteral (PEG) feeding, ventilation, and complex wound care. Every plan comes with clinical oversight and specialised worker training tailored directly to you.

First, let your current provider know, based on the notice period in your service agreement, then send us a referral. We can work alongside your current team during the transition so your care is never interrupted. We handle the entire handover, including your daily routines, preferences, and behaviour support plans. This way, you don’t have to explain everything from scratch.

Absolutely. You can use Maple whether you are self-managed, plan-managed, or agency-managed.

Self-managed and plan-managed participants can choose any provider, registered or unregistered. Agency-managed participants can only work with registered providers. Maple is fully registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. If you’d rather not handle the admin yourself, we can bill your plan manager or the NDIA directly.

We cover weekdays, evenings, weekends, public holidays, active overnight shifts, and sleepovers. We also cover 24/7 rosters for Supported Independent Living (SIL). Under NDIS price limits, late nights and longer shifts have higher hourly rates. Before anything is locked in, we’ll map out your budget against the exact hours you need to make sure your funding goes where it matters most to you.

You have three main options for finding a support worker, and the choice mostly comes down to how much administration you want to manage yourself. A registered NDIS provider handles the recruitment, background checks, training, scheduling, insurance, and backup coverage when your worker is away. Alternatively, an online platform lets you search, hire, and book independent workers directly. The third route is direct employment, where you become the employer and manage tax, insurance, and shift coverage yourself.

Most of it is ordinary. A shower before work, medication prompts, dinner cooked the way you actually eat it, laundry, a lift to an appointment, time out in your own suburb. Some roles go further into high-intensity care such as PEG feeding, catheter care or complex bowel care, which need specific clinical training and a formal sign-off first. Whatever the mix, it should be written into your service agreement rather than agreed verbally.

Hourly rates come from the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, which are set nationally, so a Brisbane hour costs the same as the equivalent hour in Sydney. What changes the number is when and what: evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, active overnight shifts and high-intensity care all sit above a standard weekday rate. Providers can charge up to the cap, never above it, and travel and some administration can be claimed under strict rules that a good provider will show you before you sign.

For everyday supports, around a week is realistic once your referral and plan details are sorted. It takes longer when the match is narrow, because a preferred language, a specific gender or a high-intensity skill set all shrink the pool and may need extra training first. Ask any provider for their average time from referral to first shift, not their best case. The gap between those two numbers tells you plenty.

Choice and control sit at the heart of the NDIS, so you get a say in who walks through your door. Set your requirements around gender, language, cultural background and age, and raise practical things too, like a worker comfortable with dogs or one who does not smoke. A good provider treats those as essentials, not a wish list, and introduces you before support starts. Get it in writing at intake so it carries through when your regular worker is on leave.

It comes down to how much you want to carry yourself. An independent worker gives you direct control and often a lower hourly rate, but insurance, compliance and finding cover at 6 am on a Tuesday become your problem. A registered provider handles screening, insurance, training, rostering and backup, and is audited against the NDIS Practice Standards. Worth knowing: agency-managed plans must use a registered provider, while self-managed and plan-managed participants can use either, or both.
