The advantages of being with a National Provider – the interstate opportunities for our clients.
There are key defining moments in our lives that we will never forget – first date, first friend or even what we did with our first pay.
For many of us, our first holiday is a significant memory, one that we can recall ‘years and yonks’ later. The excitement and anticipation that comes from the moment we start booking, through to the landing, and every moment in between.
For those of us that are lucky enough to experience this elation, we all know these feelings too well. For some, however, are yet to embark on their first holiday and experience this sweetened joy of adventure.
Meet Jason – the newest person to join the ‘Holiday Memory Club’ – all thanks to his NDIS Supports and Maple Community Services.
Jason is a much-loved client of Maple with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), severe anxiety, and an intellectual disability. He receives community participation through Maple, and as a fun fact, was one of Maple’s first clients in Melbourne, Victoria.
Having had his run-ins with the law at a younger age – Jason has since turned a new leaf and progressed impressively over the last 2 years with the assistance of a fantastic support network behind him.
Jason’s trip from Melbourne to Sydney and back, was a first of many for him. His first holiday, first plane flight, and his first time away from home with supports. To see the joy on his face was worth every second and more, of time, effort, and support.
As there are stresses that come with any trip, hesitations around approving the holiday, factoring in Jason’s anxiety and fund limits were present. However, after many conversations, and assistance from Maple, the trip was finally given the go-ahead.
Jason’s Maple Team Leader, Chloe, helped him lock in dates, book his flights, and arrange support – this was made 10 times easier for Jason by the fact that Maple is a nationwide service provider, meaning we were able to provide him with A-Class supports in different states/territories without any hiccups or issues.
“One of Jason’s biggest goals was to go on a holiday. To be able to play such a role in assisting to achieve this – well it’s a priceless feeling.” – Chloe, Maple Team Leader
Once Jason arrived in Sydney, he visited many places with Maple Support Workers, including the Blue Mountains, and the iconic Bondi Beach, played a couple of rounds of Aqua Golf, and even went Go-Karting (where his speed and talent saw him take out first prize against his Support Workers). With Maple’s help, he was also able to hire an e-bike so he could get around the city easily and cheaply.
“How did it go you might ask? Well, he was originally booked to go for a week but enjoyed his time so much that he extended the trip another week!” Chloe stated.
After an incredibly successful trip to Sydney, Jason has already started planning his next holiday, pencilling in Uluru as his next destination.
“I had a really great time with all of my Sydney support workers, especially King and Sania. My favourite activity was the Blue Mountains and riding around on my e-bike that the support workers and Chloe helped me organise. I’m looking forward to my next supported trip with Maple, it is something I’ll never forget.” – Jason.
