What is AFL Wheelchair?
Wheelchair AFL is an adapted version of the great game, that gives people with and without disability the opportunity to play. Based on AFL rules and played on a basketball court, this wheelchair sport is open to anyone to play!
Wheelchair Aussie Rules, initially developed by Kevin Faulkner from Para-Quad Tasmania, gained significant momentum through the collaborative efforts of Disability Sports Australia and the Australian Defence Force and its members. These organisations originally partnered to provide opportunities for people with disability to participate.
In collaboration with Disability Sports Australia, the AFL has been instrumental in further developing and supporting the sport now known as AFL Wheelchair with its state and territories and now governs the sport Nationally.
Maple Community Services is committed to fostering inclusivity and accessibility in sports. Through our partnership with the AFL, we aim to support the growth and development of AFL Wheelchair, ensuring that more individuals across Australia can experience the joy and camaraderie of Australian Rules Football.
